About RiverWolf Boats Founder Larry Mercer
I remember hundreds of angling trips with my dad, grandpa, and friends fishing waters all over Idaho but watching others fish waters on the Salmon River that I could not was what pushed me to purchase my first boat over 30 years ago. I loved that boat and once I really learned how to row that boat well enough to navigate the many rapids of the Salmon my obsession with fishing was here to stay.
My career as a fabricator, welder, and eventually a foreman at the Union Pacific Railroad crossed paths with my love of fishing in the late 80s, when I decided I wanted to build a bigger, roomier and safer wide bottom drift boat. That first boat led to a second, then a third. Now, over 20 years later, I have the privilege and joy of building boats for you. Building someone a beautiful drift boat, completing it on time and exceeding the owners' expectations are rewards to me. When my customer says its nicer than they expected, well, that's a little bit of payday as well.
I would always rather be side drifting Short's gravel bar for steelhead or pulling divers and bait for spring Chinook, but building the world's best fishing boats is not far behind. My love of fishing is well known, and my passion for the sport is what makes boat building so rewarding. Knowing what it takes to build a great boat comes from being in the oar seat all day long, or running a set of rapids with a tiller in one hand and a rod in the other. A lot of boat builders don't spend much time on the water--they just build boats. That doesn't work for me, and it shouldn't work for you. My boats are thoroughly angler tested by me. And I personally work on every single boat we build.
I'm proud of what I've built in RiverWolf Boats, and I know you will be, too.
